Join us this Fridaywhere we welcome the hard-groovin’, hip and horrendously good Steve Mathers Organ Quartet. The band will be performing 2 heavy sets of Bebop, Soul-Jazz and Hardbop from the 50s and 60s, expect tunes by the likes of Horace Silver, Stanley Turrentine and Jimmy Smith. Steve will be joined by top Bristol Jazzers Adam Stokes, Al Swainger and Mattia Collu (Guitar, Bass, Drums), if the sound of Blue Note is your thing, this gig is for you.
If the sound of Blue Note is your thing then you’ll get where this lot are coming from. Cool cascading sax, snapping Hammond and guitar, rock solid drum beats … it’s the classic Hard Bop sound of Horace Silver, Stanley Turrentine, Jimmy Smith and other greats of that era still sounding freshly minted. Steve’s tenor sax meets John-paul Gard’s Hammond, Martin Kolarides’ guitar and Billy Weir’s drums where old meets new and things get hot.
